Charged with Leaving Children in Car to Gamble

Mashantucket — A Rhode Island woman was arrested Saturday after
police discovered that she left four children unattended for 14
hours at Foxwoods Resort & Casino.
Ranoum Sam, 37, of Cranston, R.I., was charged with risk of injury
after she left her 14-year-old daughter, 9-year-old niece and 7-
and 6-year-old nephews in her car when she arrived at the casino
at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Fourteen hours later, the children were found in the casino by
police. Sam did not make contact with the children and they were
without food and supervision during those hours, according to
Sam had previously been ejected from the casino and was also
charged with first–degree criminal trespass.
notified the Department of Children and Families and the children
were left in the custody of Sam’s husband. She was released on a
$245 cash bond.
